What is the ICC Champions Trophy?

The ICC Champions Trophy is a prestigious ODI cricket tournament, organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It is often called the “mini World Cup” as it brings together the best ODI teams for a high-stakes showdown, usually over two or three weeks.

History & Prestige

  • 1998: Launched as the ICC KnockOut Trophy in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
  • 2002: Renamed to Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka. Co-champions: India & Sri Lanka (rain).
  • 2004–2017: Hosted in England, India, South Africa, and Kenya. Famous for major upsets and dramatic finals.
  • 2013: India wins an edge-of-the-seat final against England.
  • 2017: Pakistan claims its first Champions Trophy title in a memorable win over India, the last edition held so far.
  • 2025: India wins a thriller final against the Newzealand,scheduled in Pakistan and Dubai.
